What Never to Do with a Green VISCO Fuse

Green VISCO fuse

New Year’s Eve is approaching, and with it the time when many of us buy fireworks to celebrate. Before you start planning your show, let’s recall some basic safety rules – specifically, what never to do with the fuses that are found on most fireworks.

Green VISCO fuse is one of the most common fuses in consumer fireworks. You can find it on almost all products – from firecrackers and fountains to cakes. It is valued for its reliability, easy handling, and relatively accurate burning rate. Produced in different diameters (most often 2–3 mm), it burns at around 1 cm per second, giving users enough time to light the effect and retreat to a safe distance.

Why is the Green VISCO fuse so popular?

  • Stable and predictable burning time

  • Easy to identify thanks to its characteristic green color

  • Wide use – from small effects to professional applications

  • Available in different lengths and versions

Big NO: never wrap the fuse with tape!

You may have seen videos on social media or YouTube where people wrap the fuse with electrical tape or stick it tightly to the product. Often they do this thinking they are creating a waterproof fuse that will work in rain or snow. Please never try this – it’s extremely dangerous!

By wrapping or sealing the fuse, you create a confinement tube where hot gases and flame cannot dissipate. This dramatically increases the burn rate. A slow-burning fuse can suddenly turn into a flash fuse, igniting the firework almost instantly.

What does this mean in practice?

  • Instead of several seconds of delay, ignition may occur immediately

  • No time to retreat to a safe distance

  • Greatly increased risk of burns or injury

  • Possible damage to the firework itself

How to handle the fuse safely

  • Never modify, wrap or glue it

  • Use it exactly as installed by the manufacturer

  • If you need a longer delay, use an original extension fuse with a known burn rate, not “DIY fixes”

Before the season starts, remember

Green VISCO fuse is reliable and safe – but only if used as designed. Wrapping it with tape in the hope of making it waterproof is a dangerous gamble that can turn it into an uncontrolled hazard.

Enjoy the celebrations, but most importantly – stay safe! 🎆
And remember: Pyro is not a crime.
